Island Batik Ambassador Unboxing
Summer 2019 Unboxing
Twice each year Island Batik Ambassadors receive a box of fabric from Island Batik and it’s industry partners; Aurifil, Hobbs Batting, and Accuquilt Fabric Cutters & Dies. Here are the treasures in my July, 2019 box. These are the fabrics, threads, batting and dies we use to create monthly challenges.
These are two Foundations Bundles that each contain eight half yard cuts. The top coordinates with spring precuts while the bottom works well with the summer precut line.
This bundle features twenty quarter yard cuts from the Summer 2019 Black Pearl Collection by Katy Engle.
Sand Bar Strip Set from Island Batik’s Summer 2019 Precut Collection features lovely greens. My box included two coordinating fabrics; two yards of light and two yards of dark.
Garden Party by Linda and Carl Sullivan in 10” squares brought a huge splash of color to my unboxing. These fabrics are from the Spring 2019 collection. This bundle also included a two yard cut of Garden Party 111924565 in a deep, bright blue and a two yard cut of light.
Basics are so necessary for every quilter and these are top of the line. The fine, tightly woven white, black and gray solid four yard cuts are a dream to stitch. They have a lovely drape and very little raveling. A great four yard cut of Doughnut Neutral was also included.
Industry partners Aurifil Thread included two thread that coordinate nicely with the fabrics I received. Accuquilt sent one of their BOB (block on board) dies. The Cleopatria’s Fan block cuts all the pieces needed for a 12” finished block in one pass through the Go! Cutter.
Hobbs Batting sent three types of batting, a queen sized cotton, a throw sized 100% wool and a throw sized cotton & wool blend. The cotton gives quilted items great texture when washed. The wool is an excellent choice for competition quilts as it sheds wrinkles quickly. I have not yet used the cotton and wool blend so I look forward to reporting back on that one.
